OK, I'll post... I'm jonsin' to get my hands on a copy of the new Zelda. Hearing some pretty good things about that title for sure!
At the moment I've just got back into playing after a long absence. Me and NSMB have got some unfinished business of a World 6 nature...

Chris and Tim Stamper just left Rare. This is big news.

Maybe this brings my dream of a Wii version of Blast Corp even closer.

12:02 pm - Got Wii?

glindapinkwitch
Hi there,

Has anyone here got there Wii yet? I picked mine up last night at Gameplanet. :-)
Just had a bit of a play with the Wii Sports so far but it looks like fun. Very basic animation though on that one. I hope to start playing Zelda tonight.
I am not quite sure whether the sensor bar is better above or below the TV. It feels funny when I have to hold up the controller so high as it is on top of the TV at the moment.

Has anyone else got any first experience to share? :-)

3:55 pm - Sims 2: Pets?

glindapinkwitch
Hi there,
Is anyone here intending to buy The Sims 2: Pets for the DS? Or maybe someone has already played it? I ordered it and am still waiting for it to turn up but just now I read a pretty scathying review/comment about it. Seems like it might be like Nintendogs only less freedom.
Any input?

11:50 am - New distributor for NZ

glindapinkwitch
Hi guys,

If anyone is interested to know... Monaco is no longer the distributor for Nintendo in New Zealand. No idea who the new one is but I hope whoever it is will be better at promoting Nintendo here!

6:51 pm - Wii news

dannyrambles
GPStore sent me some awesome news today:

1. Twiight Princess will be released day one along with the console and cost only $109.95
2. Softprint were recently confirmed as the Nintendo's new NZ distirbutor. Thank you, finally a company that doesn't spend the bulk of it's time and money selling GE Fridges, Casio Cameras, and Pioneer Stereo Systems.
3. You get a Wii Baseball cap and T-shirt if you pre-order from GpStore.
4. Softprint is taking the Wii to Armaggedon and Big Boys Toys in Auckland in November.
5. A Wii Carry Bag is available from day one.
6. GPStore have more pre-orders for the Wii than they do for the PS3!

Bad News:

1. Super Mario Galaxy (working title) won't be out until early 2007.
2. I wish I had preordered my Wii from GPStore so it got delivered to me at my house on Dec 7th. Having to go all the way into EB Riccarton mall and get all the way back again is really going to eat into my Zelda playing time. EB would really hate it though if I asked for the $410 back that I've already put down on the console and two games.

- Danny

P.S - I had to send my 360 away for repair the other day - boo...The Three Rings of Doom.

P.P.S - My quest to finish all the Zelda games before Twilight Princess comes out isn't going well. Nobody can give a functioning CDi emulator that I don't have to pay for (yes, I have to play those games too) and the first two games on the NES have not aged well. Infact they're incredibly frustrating. So I skipped forward and started playing Link to the Past last night.

dannyrambles
My subject line is an example of one of the many piss-related puns we'll be hearing from Nintendo naysayers over the next couple of months/years.

Now normally I'm all for what Nintendo does and decides and stuff but "Wii" has to be one of the most misguided names I've ever seen. I can understand the idea and philosophy behind the whole thing and everything, but why name your console after a child's name for a bodily function?

I suppose in the big N's defence, I'm sure people thought The Gameboy was a stupid name at the time, but look where that got them. Probably something to do with Gameboy not having any connotations to do with toilets.

I was just reading about this new exciting new Xbox360 game called Too Human, incidentally the same Silicon Knight's Gamecube game, of the same name, that was cancelled after Eternal Darkness's poor sales. How long have Silicon Knights been out of Nintendo's pocket?

P.S: Nintendo.com is posting one video a week of their DS game New Super Mario Bros leading up to it's release. The game looks tubular.

3:37 pm - Nintendo reviews in NZ

glindapinkwitch
Hi guys,

Long time no see... I don't know whether it has been discussed here before, but did you know that the reason it's almost impossible to find reviews of Nintendo games in NZ is because the distributors won't release games or hardware to reviewers! The only way they’ll allow reviewers to play the games is if they go to the company offices at pre-arranged times and play them on-site for an hour or so – which is not going to get the best impression of a game from anybody...

What a suck-y attitude!

10:48 am - A fine gift for Nintendo fans!

dannyrambles
At this year's GDC (Game Developers Conference) Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx (the other lesser known 16bit console) games would be available for download and play on The Revolution's already excitement inducing Virtual Console. I don't know to much about the selection of Turbografx selection, but Iwata did mention that the Genesis library would be a 'best-of' like selection encompassing over a 1000 titles.

He also gave us not one, but two Zelda games to look foward to now!

What a great day for us all!

In unrelated news: I got my Xbox360 yesterday. It's front end is daunting, the wireless controllers are probably cooler than the wavebird, and Oblivion has wickedly long load times (Here's me thinking we got past all that last generation).

11:34 am - New DS Design

bushidobwoy
After plenty of rumours, Nintendo Japan have announced a new DS design. Two thirds the physical size and 20% lighter. All white with a few buttons moved around and improved backlight settings, otherwise it is the same on the insides. more info here. Should definitely help the DS defend charges of being "clunky" compared with the PSP.

Both Play-Asia.com and Lik-Sang.com have pre-orders for $169US. I've already put my order in! Remember that as Japanese versions (no USA, Europe and naturally no NZ release date for them yet) they'll come with a 110volt power supply so you'll need an existing DS one, a step-down transformer or (my preferred option) a USB DS charging cable. The latter cost $4.95US and let you charge from any USB port, extra portable.

Nintendo Japan say they'll keep selling old and new style DS (heck somehow they still sell the original GBA as well as SP and Micro) which seems odd as the DS totally sold out in Japan over xmas and there's no stock still. Which would seem to imply they were gearing up to switch to the new model production wise...

Either way, that's probably the biggest hardware announcement from Nintendo this side of codename-Revolution announcement at E3 in May.

dannyrambles
http://cube.ign.com/articles/683/683158p1.html

I also like this part:

" On a related subject, Yoshiyuki told the publication that he feels
previous Zelda outings served up a cast of enemies that were too easily
defeated. In contrast, he said that the enemies and bosses in Twilight
Princess will be much more challenging, which should be music to the
ears of some seasoned gamers. "

Wind Waker was a piece of piss!
